Silent Dialogues: Multimedia Portraits Throughout Time

On Wednesday, 3 December 2008, at 20:30 The American College of Greece will celebrate the opening of Silent Dialogues: Multimedia Portraits throughout Time, an exhibition of works from the ACG Art collection, curated by the College's Art Curator, Megakles Rogakos. The exhibition coincides with the inauguration of the ACG Art Gallery, a new 330 m² exhibition space at the College's Agia Paraskevi campus.
"Upon encountering appealing visual art, visitors are inspired to engage in ways dictated by pure instinct. This metaphysical communion, which develops organically between artwork and viewer, leads to 'silent dialogues'," Megakles Rogakos writes in the catalog that accompanies the exhibition. He adds: "Portraiture is a central subject matter in art and happens to be one of the ACG Art collection's strengths."
Silent Dialogues showcases 266 portraits by old as well as contemporary artists. Among the earliest artworks on display are an Egyptian faience Ushabti of 1000 BC, and an archaic porous stone Kouros Head from 600 BC, while among the latest are videos by contemporary artists, some of which have just been completed. The exhibition covers all art forms, ranging from painting to photography, electronic sculpture, or installations. The exhibition's accompanying 160-page catalog is available for free upon request.
The exhibition is enriched with contemporary music composed especially for the occasion by the noted Greek composer Thodoris Abazis.
Silent Dialogues is part of the inaugural events celebrating the appointment of Dr. David G. Horner as President of The American College of Greece, and the assumption of the position of Chancellor by former President Dr. John S. Bailey.

Η έκθεση περιλαμβάνει έργα των εξής νέων καλλιτεχνών :
Βασιλική Κοσκινιώτου, Δημήτρης Μηλιώτης, Αρτεμις Παπαδοπούλου, Αλέξανδρος Σπαθούλας.
Τα έργα της Β.Κοσκινιώτου είναι εμπνευσμένα από τον ερωτισμό της φύσης, τα οργανικά σχήματα και τους πλανήτες. Η εσωτερική ισορροπία εκφράζεται με αφαιρετική διάθεση, κυκλικές φόρμες και δυναμικό χρώμα.
Οι μονοτυπίες του Δ.Μηλιώτη, με επίκεντρο την ανθρώπινη φιγούρα, δημιουργούν συνθήκες ισορροπίας μέσα από την κίνηση της φόρμας και το χρώμα της σύνθεσης.
Πρωτότυπες συνθέσεις με διάφορα υλικά όπως νήματα, ύφασμα και χρώμα ισορροπούν στα τελάρα της Α.Παπαδοπούλου, δημιουργώντας την αίσθηση του οικείου.
Τα έργα του Α.Σπαθούλα , με σουρεαλιστική διάθεση και ήρεμα χρώματα, εκφράζουν την δυναμική της φαντασίας με αφορμή λεπτομέρειες της καθημερινότητας.
